Cebu Governor Davide Announces Reelection Bid

CEBU CITY – Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III announced that he will seek reelection and will run in tandem with Vice Governor Agnes Magpale in the 2016 elections.

“(It’s) Junjun-Agnes one more time!” said Davide when asked by the media if he and Magpale had discussed the 2016 elections in their closed-door meeting at his office Wednesday morning.

Davide will run under the Liberal Party, which fielded him and Magpale in the last 2013 elections.

Davide’s announcement finally ended rumors that Magpale, now 72, was planning to run for governor.

Possible opponents of Davide in the 2016 elections have not surfaced yet but talks are ripe that former Cebu Governor and now Representative Gwendolyn Garcia is seeking a comeback.

Garcia served three terms as Cebu Governor. When her term expired in 2013, her brother Pablo John ran for governor but lost to Davide. –
