Cebu Province Tops TB Cases in Central Visayas

CEBU CITY – The province of Cebu now has the most number of tuberculosis (TB) cases in the entire Visayas region, data released by the Department of Health (DOH) 7.

DOH records showed that a total of 14,2014 TB cases were recorded in 2014, with Cebu province having the highest number of patients, followed by Bohol, Negros Oriental, Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City and Mandaue City.

However, the DOH also revealed that the TB treatment success rate in the region hit 92 percent last year, or 2 percent higher than the national target.

With TB cases still rampant in the region, the DOH has urged local government units to activate their TB task force team to detect and cure more patients with TB.

Earlier, members of the League of Mayors in the Philippines commit to intensify TB program implementation in their areas during the recently-concluded League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP) meetings.

The DOH will be launching a TB caravan on August 24, which will take place in different municipalities in Cebu.

The DOH said it has focused on places that are classified as geographically isolated disadvantaged areas (GIDA) in giving awareness and free check up during the TB caravan.

The DOH currently offers free TB DOTS (Directly Observe Treatment Short-Course) in different Barangay Health Centers for those who are diagnosed with TB. –
