City Seeks New Lot for Busay School

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has ordered Local School Board (LSB) chairman Raddy Diola to immediately look for an area where a new Busay elementary school can be constructed.

Rama issued the order following the evacuation of pupils after a landslide hit the side of the barangay sports complex, which served as temporary school for the children.

The mayor, however, stressed that it will not be very easy to look for a site where a new school building will be built but added that a temporary site has already been identified.

The old Busay Elementary School was abandoned following the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that rocked Cebu and Bohol in 2013.

Diola, for his part, said his office has been coordinating with the city’s Department of Engineering and Public Works in providing a solution to the problem.

He added that city engineers are looking at the structural safety of the old Busay Elementary School to determine if it can still be used as temporary school for the children. –
