MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – A lady jogger and a bicycle rider were killed after they were hit by a wayward mini-bus early morning Saturday along MC Briones Street, North Road, Mandaue City (Eskina Canduman).
At least 20 passengers of the mini-bus, including the driver, Antonio Abatayo, were also brought to the hospital for various injuries after the bus hit two public utility jeepneys past 5 a.m. today.
The police said Abatayo lost control of the vehicle when the brake of the mini-bus suddenly malfunctioned. The bus was on its way to Cebu City from Carmen town and was trudging a steep road.
Abatayo tried to avoid hitting the vehicles ahead by swerving to the other lane. The bus, however, hit a female jogger and a bicycle rider. The two died in the hospital, the police said.
After hitting the two victims, Abatayo swerved back the right lane, where he hit two passenger jeepneys. The wayward bus only stopped when it hit an electric post.
At least 20 passengers of the mini-bus were brought to the hospital for various injuries.
It was not the first time that an accident had occurred in the area. Last month, a van lost its brakes and hit into several vehicles, killing a pastor, whose body was torn apart due to the impact of the crash. – CebuHeadlines.com
