The organizing committee of the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) 2016 is expecting a crowd of 500,000 to 1 million to attend the culminating mass at the Statio Orbis in the South Road Properties (SRP).
Auxiliary Bishop Dennis Villarojo, Secretary General of the IEC 2016, said the mass will be held on January 31 as a culminating mass for the week-long international religious gathering.
The said mass is open to the public and will not be exclusive to registered-delegates and participants, Villarojo added.
The said mass will be celebrated by Cardinal Charles Maung Bo from the Archdiocese of Yangon, Myanmar. Cardinal Bo has been appointed by Pope Francis the Papal Legate to the 51st IEC.
The organizers of the 51st IEC is expecting 15,000 foreign and local delegates to attend the congress, which will be held in the Philippines for the second time since 1952, when Manila hosted the event.
Villarojo has urged the public to pray for the success and safety of the international congress as the police said securing the event is a major challenge because the weeklong event has different venues. – CebuHeadlines.com
