Three government troopers were killed while six others were injured when soldiers clashed with members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Kabankalan City, Negros Oriental early dawn today.
Brigadier General Eliezer Losanes, commnder of the 303rd Infantry Bridge of the Philippines, has confirmed the death of the three soldiers. Six government troops were also injured.
Losanes said at least 60 NPA members clashed with the government troops in Sitio Atubon, Barangay Tan-awan, Kabankalan City.
The soldiers of the 62nd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army were conducting combat clearing operations in line with the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections when the clash took place.
Losanes could not determine the number of casualties on the side of the rebels.
